Day: 683Shirt: Jeff Hanneman - Still Reigning 1964-2013Color: BlackBrand: Hanes TaglessSource: Went to the memorial not sure what to expect yesterday.  part of it was scary, part of it was heavy and part of it was just comical.
the Scary part was the amount of people that showed up.  there was a line around the entire block of the Palladium.  and i mean form one side to the other.  all kids wearing Slayer shirts.  the Wesboro church was supposed to picket but by the time i got there there was no sight of them.  it seemed like a losing battle anyways.
The Heavy part was the speeches and stories people told.  all of them seemed to realize that Jeff drank a lot and this day was inevitable.  then you realized that this guy, the guy that wrote the catchiest MEtal riffs ever, War Ensemble, Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven was gone.  would anyone be able to write such epic catchy metal riffs ever again?  I’ll go on record here saying Metallica was neevr the same after Cliff passed.  Neither Was Sabbath.  these guys are the hearts and souls of the bands.
So the comical part was during a slide show of photos of Jeff with accompanying music they started playing slayer songs…and and soon as Reign in Blood starts, you can feel it…heads bobbing, metalheads getting emotional and it starting to sink in, the guy who wrote these epic guitar parts that we all remeber is now gone for good.  and pit ensues.  mind you this is a wake.  It may seem crass, but to me i cant think of a better way for these people to send off Jeff.  a giant circle Pit. I kinda feel like he would have been proud.  so many people in this place all to celebrate his life and what he gave to us.
Thanks Forever Jeff.
